Financial Transaction Tax – the first deadline approaching

Newsletter – 27.05.2025

Dear clients and partners,

The deadline for submitting the first notification regarding the Financial Transaction Tax, as well as its payment, is approaching. For April 2025, the deadline is June 2, 2025. In this regard, the Financial Administration has published the financial transaction tax notification form on its official portal. (OZNDFTv25 – Oznámenie o dani z finančných transakcií).

We are here for you,

Financial Transaction Tax – the first deadline approaching

Submission of the Financial Transaction Tax Notification and levy of the Tax

The notification must be submitted electronically, separately for each month. In certain cases, it is possible to submit monthly notifications and pay the tax for the period of April – May 2025 by the end of July 2025. In such cases, the tax must be paid separately for each month, using distinct variable symbols corresponding to the specific tax period.

Who is not subject to the extended deadline?

The extended deadline does not apply to taxpayers who had costs related to the execution of a financial transaction recharged to them in April 2025. The Ministry of the Slovak Republic clarified the meaning of recharged costs in the Financial Transaction Tax Guidance as follows:

  • If the taxpayer enters into a contract or a similar legal relationship with a third party, which includes the transfer of funds or payments on behalf of the taxpayer by the third party to other entities,
  • allocation of costs.

These taxpayers are required to submit tax notifications and pay the tax on a monthly basis within the standard deadline (for April, already by June 2, 2025).

The extended deadline does not apply to taxpayers – banks – if they have already collected the Financial Transaction Tax from taxpayers in April 2025 or May 2025. If the tax was collected from taxpayers in April, the banks are obliged to remit the collected tax for April 2025 by June 2, 2025, and are also required to submit the notification within the same deadline.

If a taxpayer closes its transaction account between April 1, 2025, and May 31, 2025, and the bank has not managed to collect and remit the tax from that account, the taxpayer is responsible for remitting the tax for the tax periods during which the account was active. The deadline is the end of the calendar month following the month in which the transaction account was closed.
